What is SaaS, PaaS and IaaS and the difference between these Cloud Services…?

In the first series of article on cloud you must be aware of what are Cloud computing services. Now, as part of this article we will dive a bit more deep to understand cloud service models namely SAAS, PAAS and IAAS and understand them and the difference among them. This article will also give business an idea to decide which Cloud service model they should go for and in grasping the fundamental difference between the core classes of available cloud services.

Software as a Service (SaaS)

Under SaaS Model, Cloud service providers has developed a software and users can subscribe to the service provide to use the software and can pay as they use. Some example of the software are like Google Apps, Microsoft Azure Storage Solutions, Web browser, and the list goes on.

Use of SaaS applications and software’s tends to reduce the overall cost of software ownership by eliminating the requirement of an IT staff to develop, manage installation, software upgrades, and maintenance activities as well as reduce the cost of licensing software. As with most cloud services, PaaS is built on top of virtualization technology. Businesses can requisition resources as they need them, scaling as demand grows, rather than investing in hardware with redundant resources.

There are service providers in the market and they provide on demand services to the users via internet connectivity where they own, maintain and administer (manage) the services and they charge the user per the duration they use.
